Custom Ceramic Tiles & Hand Painted Tile Murals
Tiles have a wonderful way of settling into a home, quietly becoming part of its daily life.
Mine are hand-painted here in Somerset, often for kitchens, fireplaces and doorways, and can be found in homes from Scotland and Suffolk to Cornwall, and as far afield as France, Canada and Australia. Each one is made to suit its setting.
Inspired by nature and the long tradition of European majolica and Delftware, they carry familiar motifs of birds, hens and foliage, in soft blues, greens, yellows and corals.
Designing Your Tiles
Each tile project begins with your space.
All you need to do is:
- Measure and sketch the area you would like to tile
- Note any details such as cooker hoods, shelves, corners position of any obstructions such as a flue
- Send this along with a loose idea of colours or imagery
From there, I will:
- Develop a design suited to your home
- Send a sketch for your approval
- Provide a quotation
I can also add personal details to the design, such as the name of your house (but it’s best not to be over-prescriptive).
You are very welcome to call to talk it through, or arrange a visit to the workshop in Fitzhead.

The Making Process
Each tile passes through several careful stages over four days:
Day 1
Bisque tiles are dipped by hand into a tin glaze and cleaned back.
Days 2–3
The dry glazed surface is painted, then tiles are packed into the kiln and fired overnight at 1060°C.
Day 4
The kiln cools and the finished tiles emerge, ready for use.
Lead Time
It is a slow and considered process, giving the tiles their depth of colour and softly varied surface.
Tile orders are typically completed in around 8 weeks, though this can vary depending on the scale of the project.
